Protect Black Women Toile

This toile is made up of the images of seven different Black women who have played a pivotal role in the fight for racial equality. The figures compare and reflect the sentiments of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement and today’s Black Lives Matter Movement. The interconnectedness of the themes show how the movements from both eras are rooted in the same issues and struggles. The main images are surrounded by flowers to symbolize the growth Black women have made for the movement and reflect the bouquets commonly seen at memorials of the Black lives that are lost in unjust ways. The main colors in this toile are navy and cream which are traditionally used in toile prints. Warmer colors are used within the floral design to add a contrast. The purpose of this print is to acknowledge, honor, and empower Black women and their involvement in social justice movements. This print was made with hand drawings and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Fire Now Textile Design

This original print is inspired by the book Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. The print is made up of hand drawn matchsticks that have been colored and placed together to resemble flowers. The combination of flowers and matchsticks represent the change in the social climate of the country and where there is growth there is also pain and fire. This print was made with Procreate, Photoshop, and Pointcarre
